Convention Summary
The 26th Grand Council Convention of Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity was held at the Sheraton-Cadillac Hotel in Detroit, Michigan, December 27-29, 1951. Members of Mu Omicron Pi and the Detroit Graduate Chapters were the hosts for the Seventy-Second Anniversary Meeting. Grand Regent Frank H. Eby presided. The one-hundred-seventy-eight delegates and members and the fifty-four guests who were registered made the total attendance of two-hundred-thirty-two the highest on record to that time. Thirty-nine collegiate chapters, twelve graduate chapters and four provinces were represented. During the business sessions excellent reports were presented by the Grand Officers and Chairmen of standing committees. A number of amendments to the Constitution were approved and of special interest were the following: (1) approval of an increase in the Grand Council Initiation Fee from $12 to $17; (2) approval of a new lapel button consisting of the Greek letters Kappa and Psi, designated the Kappa Psi Lapel Letters; (3) passage of a special directive stating that no part of the ritual of initiation would be used when an honorary membership is conferred; (4) certification of the scholarship standing by the dean or director of a school of pharmacy shall be required for all candidates nominated for the Grand Council Scholarship Gold Key Award; (5) travel expenses for one certified delegate (not proxy) from each collegiate chapter were defined as first class rail fare.
Highlights of the convention included: (a) the splendid hospitality of the Detroit brothers; (b) the generosity of the Parke, Davis Company, whose Manager of Trade Relations, John A. MacCartney (Beta Kappa), arranged for a tour through the large plant and a fine dinner in the evening; (c) the Anniversary Dinner with more than two-hundred in attendance; (d) the presentation of a silver tray to Brother Maynard W. Quimby, Editor of The MASK, for his important contributions to the Fraternity; (e) the "Welcome Kappa Psi" electric sign over the entrance to the Sheraton-Cadillac Hotel.
